Welcome to the California VoterConnect political KML repository!
In this directory you can get access to KML files of State Senate, Assembly and Congressional Districts, as well as individual precincts, for all of California. This data is available under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license. KML files are what Google Earth and Google Maps both use to draw areas on maps. The objective of this work is to democratize campaign targeting decisions, as well as to understand and bridge the deep racial, class and political participation divisions that have so damaged the civic fabric in California.
Here's the data:
Known issues:
The CAPREC index page is too long (22k+ precincts!)
Districts with islands & funky geometry (like CD23) aren't rendering properly
No county supervisor maps beyond SF (I have data for many counties though)
The CA precincts are circa 2006. Some areas may have changed.

If you're a glutton for punishment (or a programmer, or both), please see this post on how you too can break shapefiles up into individual KML files.
These include a CAVoterConnect overlay to make compliance with the CC Attribute license easy/automatic. If you'd like a version without these overlays, feel free to get in touch. And if you have any questions or if you do something cool with this data: please - let us know!
